Entering Perspectives

Mohamed Yusuf Boss, Dimitry Kochenov, Maria Ioannou and others

Dinner with surprising tastes, thought-provoking ideas and artistic interventions. What is actually needed to be able to understand each other in a world full of stories and perspectives?

How do you enter into a world you do not yet know? Let yourself be inspired to question your own perspective and someone else’s during Science Dinner: Entering Perspectives. The dinner does not only offer surprising tastes, but also thought-provoking ideas. In between courses you will listen to three talks and you will be stimulated artistically during a dance performance and various interventions.

Speakers of the evening include Dimitry Kochenov (professor EU Constitutional Law at the University of Groningen), Joram Tarusarira (assistant professor of Religion, Conflict and Peacebuilding at the University of Groningen) and Maria Ioannou (social sciences teacher at the University College Groningen). Choreographer Mohamed Yusuf Boss will join in to take you on a quest for new worlds, new connections and new insights.

What's for dinner? As an appetizer Kruimels serves a citrus salad. For main course we'll share an Iranian vegetable stew with bread and yoghurt dip. And last but not least: Lebanese turmeric cake for dessert.

Mohamed Yusuf Boss is a dancer, choreographer and theater maker from Groningen. In the X_YUSUF_BOSS initiative Mohamed creates a house for stories, a place where there is room for everyone's story. Dimitry Kochenov is a professor of EU Constitutional law at the University of Groningen and an expert in citizenship, nationality and immigration law and constitutional law of the European Union. Together with Henley and Partners he created the QNI: Quality of Nationality Index, the first index of its kind to objectively rank the quality of nationalities worldwide. It explores what make one nationality better than another in terms of a legal status through which to develop your talents and business.

Joram Tarusarira is assistant professor of Religion, Conflict and Peacebuilding and director of Centre for Religion, Conflict and Globalisation at the University of Groningen. His research interests include the role of religion in conflict and its transformation, religious non-conformism and cultural dynamics, religion and civil society, social movements, and post-conflict reconciliation. His academic experience has been enriched by studying in various countries: Zimbabwe, Canada, Ireland/ Northern Ireland and Germany.

Maria Ioannou is a social sciences teacher at the University College Groningen. She was born and raised in Cyprus, just a few metres away from the ‘Green line’ across the island, dividing it into the Turkish north and the Greek south. She studied social psychology at the University of Cyprus and holds a PhD in Philosophy of the University of Oxford. Intergroup contact (as a means for prejudice reduction) is her main research topic.
