Hunting Dinosaurs

Anne Schulp

We all know the giant fossils of dinosaurs, but ever wondered where and how these are found? Paleontologist Anne Schulp takes you to the excavation site and shows you ‘how it's done’, from finding the first bones to getting the whole skeleton to the surface. He dug up Trix, the 66 million old Tyrannosaurus rex that is on display in Naturalis Biodiversity Center. What have we discovered so far about Trix? What did she look like, and what did life look like during her time? During the presentation, fragments from the film "Dinosaurs at Dusk", a full-dome production made by the Dutch animation and film studio Mirage 3D, will be shown.

Anne Schulp is professor of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Department of Earth Sciences at Utrecht University, and researcher with Naturalis Biodiversity Center, the national natural history museum of the Netherlands in Leiden. Anne obtained his PhD in 2006 at the VU Amsterdam on marine reptiles (mosasaurs) from the Maastricht Formation. Reptiles from the Age of Dinosaurs have his special interest.

This Dome Show is organised in cooperation with DOT and DOTliveplanetarium.
