Studium Generale: Crossing Academic Borders

Do you enjoy reflecting on societal themes? Are you studying history, for example, but have considered physics, or vice versa? And do you want to show the world that you’re interested in a variety of subjects? Then the Studium Generale digital credential is for you!

Attend at least five Studium Generale programs, write a short reflection for each event, and receive a digital proof of competence to add to your CV and LinkedIn. This way, you can show future employers that you are socially engaged and think about current issues.
You can start at any time of the year. The earlier you start, the more choice you’ll have in events and topics. So sign up now!

Requirements

  • You are a student at the University of Groningen (RUG), Hanze University of Applied Sciences, or NHL University of Applied Sciences.
  • Earning the credential is extracurricular; you will not receive study credits, but you will receive a proof of competence.

    You can follow this program in Dutch or English.

What do you need to do?

  • Register via: SG Crossing Academic Borders.
  • Attend at least five Studium Generale events during the 2026/2027 academic year; you are expected to attend the events in person.
  • Write a critical reflection on each of the five evenings. The input from all evenings must be processed into a reflection report, which must be assessed as satisfactory to obtain the proof of competence.

Submission

Reflections must be submitted by 1 June 2027 via email to studium AT rug.nl. Include “reflectie microcredential + s-number” in the subject line of the email.
