Busting Myths About Religion

Joram Tarusarira

What is the position of religion in our secularized society? Is religion merely a source of conflict and intolerance, leading to terrorism and holy wars? Or is the link between religion and violence a myth? Does religion divide or unite our society? At Stukafest Festival, Joram Tarusarira, Director of the Centre for Religion, Conflict and the Public Domain, will discuss these topics with students in a cosy student room!

Program:
Round 1: 8.30 - 9.00 pm
Round 2: 9.30 - 10.00 pm
Round 3: 10.30 - 11.00 pm

Joram Tarusarira is Assistant Professor of Religion, Conflict and Peacebuilding, in the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies at University of Groningen and Director of the Centre for Religion, Conflict and the Public Domain. He attained his PhD from the University of Leipzig (Germany). His research interests, in which he has published journal articles and book chapters, include the role of religion in conflict and its transformation, religious non-conformism and cultural dynamics, religion and civil society, social movements and post-conflict reconciliation. He is the author of the forthcoming book: Reconciliation and Religio-political Non-conformism in Zimbabwe, to be published by Routledge.

Note: we earlier anounced Erin Wilson as speaker. Unfortunately, she had to cancel. We found Joram Tarusarira willing to take her place.
