The Silk Roads

Towards the end of the thirteenth century, an Asian contemporary of Marco Polo travelled from today’s Beijing through Baghdad to medieval Rome and Paris.

It was on the Silk Roads that East and West first encountered each other through trade and conquest, leading to the spread of ideas, cultures and religions.
