Eternal You

Film screening and aftertalk
Markus Eronen

InScience International Science Film Festival Nijmegen is one of the biggest science film festivals in Europe. The programme consists of an overview of the best science films of the year. InScience takes place every spring in Nijmegen, but the festival will also tour the entire country with the best films from the last edition. This year Groningen will have its first full InScience On Tour programme with the three outstanding movies Neutrino, Eternal You and El Equipo. After each screening, movie makers, scientists and the audience engage in a discussion to share new insights.

Film - Eternal You

If you had the opportunity to talk to a deceased loved one, would you take it? Eternal You delves into the world of start-ups that try to bring the dead back to ‘life’ by creating avatars of the deceased with AI. This documentary explores the age-old human desire for immortality and poses penetrating questions about the commercial realization of this dream. An urgent, commandingly told and extremely topical film.

Aftertalk with philosopher Markus Eronen
What effect does bringing the deceased back to life via artificial intelligence have? Can we still distinguish between real and fake – and is that a bad thing? What about the regulations surrounding these new technologies?

Markus Eronen is an assistant professor at the Department of Theoretical Philosophy (RUG). His current research topics include philosophy of mental disorders, complexity and reductionism, and the differences between human and artificial intelligence. He teaches several philosophy courses at the RUG, including Philosophy of AI and Cognition.

The films will be subtitled in English. The aftertalk will also be in English. This programme is organised in collaboration with Forum Groningen.

The Groningen InScience Festival is co-funded by the European Commission, under the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme, grant agreement No.101162172.
